The legislators agreed to the request by President Goodluck Jonathan to extend the proclamation of emergency rule in the North-Eastern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe for another period of six months.
The decision came after more than two hours of brainstorming between reps and two of the service chiefs.
This resolution by the House of Representatives
was reached after the Chief of Defense Staff, Admiral Saad Ola Ibrahim, and the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, briefed the lawmakers on the security report authored by the Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, which was transmitted to the House by President Jonathan last week.
All the service chiefs were scheduled to meet with the House last week but wrote back to it that they were indisposed as they were all out of Abuja on a national assignment.
