Anambra guber: INEC chief handed over to police

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), yesterday confirmed that it has handed over its officials allegedly involved in Saturday’s gubernatorial election to the police. A Senior director in the organisation who does not want his name in prints, told Daily Sun that the culprits, who were flown to Abuja, on Tuesday night,
were handed over
to the police yesterday, morning. The source, who confirmed that those handed over to the police were members of staff of INEC, said they were taken straight to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), at the Force Headquarters. The source, who refused to reveal the names of the affected officers, said the offense which they were accused of was too heavy to hide under the carpet, considering the fact that INEC,
would not want to be seen to be supporting a particular party or candidate as far as elections were concerned. When contacted to confirm if the INEC officials were in police custody, when they would be taken to court and their offence, Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Frank MBA, did not pick his calls or respond to a text message sent to his phone on the matter. However, FCID sources told Daily Sun that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigation was concluded. The source said they might be charged to court on or before next week.
