Is Mesut Ozil dating Miss Turkey?
The Arsenal star has been snapped with glamour girl Amine Gulse,
sparking unsubstantiated claims they may be romantically linked.
Ozil has Turkish heritage, indeed he is the son of migrants from the country, who moved to Germany prior to his birth.
While the reports in Turkish tabloids have sent the rumour mill into
overdrive, Gulse and Ozil are said to be long-time friends and the
former beauty pageant queen's people have denied the pair are in a
relationship.
The World Cup winner was in action last night as the Gunners drew 0-0 with Liverpool at the Emirates.
Arsenal failed to find the net for the second home game in a row, following their 2-0 defeat to West Ham on the opening day.
Before the match, Gary Neville slammed the German's contribution to the side.
"I don't think I've ever seen Mesut Ozil take responsibility for the
rest of his team. I've seen him have good games, where he passes the
ball well, gets involved and gets assists but doesn't get enough goals,"
he said.
If you've been keeping even half an eye on the all-consuming behemoth
that is the summer transfer window, you'll know that there's a hot new
rumour doing the rounds.
It involves Manchester United and Neymar, whose international agent, Pini Zahavi, was spotted at Old Trafford at the weekend. It supposedly involves a bid of €190million, the value of the striker's buyout clause at Barcelona.
Mainly, though, it involves the kind of suspension of belief that would put the world's most ardent Scientologists to shame.
Not because it is hard to imagine United harbouring ambitions of signing Neymar –
heaven knows Ed Woodward is a dreamer – but because it is difficult to
see why on earth Neymar would harbour ambitions of playing for
Manchester United.
Let's compare and contrast.
The Brazilian plays for a
team who secured a historic treble last season and must be considered
the best side in the world. Manchester United are not even the best team
in their city.
He lines up alongside Luis Suarez, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi,
for whom his admiration has been obvious dating back to his time at
Santos. At Manchester United, he would play alongside Wayne Rooney, a
man who forgot how to play football three years ago and whose potential
educational value – aside from as a cautionary tale about the perils of
burnout – is probably minimal.
Then there are the coaches: would this most enigmatic, instinctive of
players willingly trade the freedom afforded to him by Luis Enrique for
a taste of Louis van Gaal's pass-pass-turn-around-pass-rinse-repeat
human jigsaw puzzle?
It is not as if Neymar's progress has been
anything less than stellar at Barcelona, either. Since arriving in
Catalonia, he has made a mockery of those who had him down as a flighty
YouTube trickster. His goal record last season – 39 in 51 games – speaks
of a player growing in stature, while all evidence points to his being
settled in Spain. His former girlfriend and his son, Davi Lucca, are
considering moving to Barcelona to be closer to him.
Why would he possibly forego all of that?
Really, there are only two possible reasons he would even
consider it. The first is money: Neymar's dad/agent/puppet master has
already proven himself to be a wheeler-dealer of the most depressing
sort and it would be little surprise if he pressed for a move it was
financially beneficial.
But then... come on. According to Forbes,
Neymar earns over $30million a year between wages and sponsorship
deals, a figure that will only rise as his career goes on. Surely even
Neymar Sr's nefarious influence could not convince the forward to
sacrifice so much for an extra few million pounds over the length of a
contract.
The second thing is prestige: the certainty that he
would be the main attraction rather than a member of the supporting
cast. Perhaps he fancies stepping out of Messi's shadow.
MarioBalotelli claimed he has always had Milan “in his heart” as he trained back with his former club.
The Italy striker underwent a medical this morning before agreeing a season-long loan deal back to Serie A from Liverpool. Balotelli, 25, had joined the Anfield club from Milan in a £16m transfer last summer.
The Italian club have now agreed a £1.6m loan deal with
Liverpool paying half the wages and no agreement to make the move
permanent.
Balotelli, who will again wear the No 45 shirt, was greeted by two hundred fans at the Milanello training ground.
“I am happy to be back,” he said. “I just want to train and show what I can do. Physically I am quite good. I just have to work.
“I always thought I could return – because I have always had Milan in my heart and I always hoped to return.
“Do I want to finish my career here? I have to start to work from now and have a good year and then we will see.”
Aaron Ramsey says he becomes a more tenacious and competitive person when he is playing football.
The Wales midfielder is quiet and easy-going off the pitch, but that
all changes when he crosses the white line to represent Arsenal.
“It’s pretty much like flicking a switch in my head,” Ramsey told
Arsenal Player. “I give everything when I’m on the pitch or on the
training pitch. When I’m at the training ground and working in the gym
or whatever, I always give everything that I’ve got.
In this team I feel comfortable enough to feel as though I can play
my best football. I’m really happy on the pitch at the moment Aaron Ramsey
“As soon as you feel as though you have a responsibility in the team,
you’re confident, you want to be out there expressing yourself and I’m
in that place. In this team I feel comfortable enough to feel as though I
can play my best football. I’m really happy on the pitch at the moment.
Ramsey has suffered setbacks in his career and insists the best way
to bounce back from a frustrating defeat is to focus on other things
away from football.
“You’re disappointed with the result but there’s nothing you can do
with that now so it’s important to put that to the back of your mind,
learn from what went wrong there and focus on the next game,” he said.
“You have to prove what you can do and that you can get back to winning
ways.
“I’m not one of those people who goes home and has to put football on
the TV straight away or has to watch Sky Sports News. It’s important to
take your mind off football otherwise you become too obsessed and you
look into things too much.
“You could have problems when you do that, when you then go onto the
pitch and play, so it’s important to take your mind off it. When you’re
there and playing it’s important to focus 100 per cent on what you’re
doing.
“I play golf to take my mind off [football]. I have a family who are
very important in my life as well and they help me to take my mind away
from it. When you are playing football you have to give everything and
focus 100 per cent on trying to do your best but it’s important to have
the right balance.”
